Shopping at the mall with a toddler

Shopping at the mall with a toddler-Being Rubitah- family conversations here

The common but untold story of motherhood where managing a toddler sometimes puts you in an embarassing position. Read on to find out what happened in my case when I was one day shopping at the mall with a toddler.

It was a usual Friday. We were at the mall for shoe shopping. Running around from one end to another, in his bright green t-shirt, my son was his usual self too.

Waving at all the little girls with his charming “hi” and “le car, le shirt” (dont ask me how he picked up French), he was adamant on exploring the big colourful world of the mall.

Usually, in this situation, either my husband would take him out or I would just let him be and follow his trail.

Arun was about to bill his shoe when the 50% discount on female western wear caught my eyes. Happy and determined to get something for the season, I handed over my excited toddler to my partner and started strolling in the clothes section.

I could hear my son’s defiant cries and then his quick escape from his father. I was aware of his little steps, swiftly moving towards me. “Ah! Let Arun watch him!” I told my “distracted mother” mind.

So, I returned to admiring this particular top, when I spotted my son pushing a mannequin close to me. With a sense of urgency yet keeping calm, I rushed to pick him up. “No Steve! Come here.” I sternly said and took him away from the spot.

Angry at my husband for allowing this to happen, I was about to scold my son, when suddenly an unknown man stopped my way, with a mischievous smile.

Assuming he was amused by Steve, I  smiled back and tried to get around him. Strangely the man refused to budge and kept pointing at Steve.

I looked down, puzzled and realized that my Steve had miraculously turned into another toddler with a similar green t-shirt!!

Everybody around me broke into peals of laughter.

Yes, I had picked up someone else!

Where was Steve in this whole situation? Safe in the arms of his father,  who seemed quite entertained at the state of affairs!
