We visited the Mall of Dilmunia in August last year. It is located in Dilmunia Island, Galali, Bahrain.
Overlooking the grand Dilmunia canal, the mall was only half finished when we visited, with very few shops open for service. Covid had just started to rise in Bahrain and so there were many restrictions to ensure safety.
The name Dilmunia originates from one of the oldest civilisations of the world- Dilmun that used to be a significant trading point in the 4th millennium BC for the Gulf region. Dilmun then, comprised of Bahrain, Kuwait and parts of Saudi Arabia and had its capital in Qal’at-al-Bahrain, now known as the Bahrain Fort in Karbabad, Bahrain.
What can you expect from the Mall of Dilmunia Bahrain
In one word variety. This mall is absolutely different from all other malls in Bahrain for the entertainment options it provides to its visitors. It is not a regular mall where you walk or sit at a cafe and shop. There are some truly fascinating experiences that you can look forward to!
The Bahrain Aquarium
A beautiful cylindrical aquarium towering across four floors with more than 2700 marine species. This was truly beautiful and is said to be a first of its kind in the Middle-East.
The Boulevard
An inspiration from Austrian architecture “the boulevard” offers a magnificent retail experience. With a high resolution LED screen spanning across the ceiling, it gives you the illusion of being outdoors with its changing lights and high tech sound effects.
Dilmunia Canal and dancing fountain
The Dilmunia Canal which is also Bahrain’s largest man-made body of water (1.7 km) gives a beautiful fountain show that starts from 6.30 pm usually.
Superhero floor
In the mall you also a find a floor dedicated to all the Marvel/DC superheroes and popular cartoon characters. If you’re a fan of the Avengers or Superman or Spongebob or Minions or Popeye etc you would surely be delighted to see your favourite characters on exhibit.
Funscape World
A multi-faceted entertainment hub, this place sets a new standard of indoor play for kids and adults. Apart from organising events and other shows, they have four dedicated zones namely –
- Adventure- wall climbing (30 mins 4 BD), rope courses (30 mins 5 BD for kids, 7 BD for adults), zip lines (2 BD), freewill (2 BD) etc
- Play (arcade games, VR games, rollercoasters, soft play area, toddler zone etc with prices ranging from 0.600 fils to 1.5 BD)
- Sports (football space with FIFA approved turf and basketball space- all with the usual sporting facilities) They offer soccer lessons too.
- Ice (ice skating ring with lessons. A weekend general admission for 60 min ice skating costs about 5.5 BD per person
(Prices above are updated as of November 2021)
Art exhibits
As we walked around the Mall we couldn’t help notice the display of doodles and graffitis all across the walls and even in the Boulevard. They are beautiful and add to aesthetic make and vision of the mall.
Check out my instagram post with the boulevard video to have a closer look and feel of the place.
We’ve always had a good experience visiting the Mall of Dilmunia Bahrain. We hope to make more visits this year as well.
