6:00 AM

My husband would wake up by this time. He would drink lemon water without sugar or salt – half a lemon squeezed into a glass of lukewarm water. Along with it he would eat a spoonful of flax seeds plus 4-5 almonds/ pumpkin seeds/ a walnut. The lemon water would be mixed with a pinch of turmeric and bitter gourd powder.

6:30 AM

He would go to the nearby park and spend 45 minutes walking.

7:30 AM

When he returned, he drank a cup of coffee without sugar and made with low fat/skimmed milk.

11:00 AM

Breakfast; as he had decided on the intermittent fasting routine of 16:8. Earlier he used to have breakfast at 8 a.m; the timings were gradually extended from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m over a span of 10 days.

His breakfast consisted of two rotis and a vegetable dish, as before. However, the size of the rotis were reduced (to reduce carbohydrate intake) and the vegetable dish portion was increased.

Sometimes, he had tea without sugar or a cup of milk with breakfast. Very often he had a teaspoon full of Isabgol ( a medicinal husk ) mixed with a glass of luke warm water half an hour before breakfast.

1:30 PM

Lunch which again consisted of 2 rotis ( small ) and a moderate vegetable portion.  There would be a huge portion of salad made of raw vegetables like carrot, tomato, cucumber, onions, beetroot, radish, lettuce. Sometimes there would be a small katori of curd.

I would sprinkle vinegar or lemon juice or grated lemon peel over the salad. All the 3 are beneficial for controlling blood sugar.

4.30 PM

Tea which was taken with sugar and he ate a few sugar free biscuits. Sometimes he munched a bit of mixture or murukku, traditional South Indian savoury snacks.

7:00 PM

Dinner. He ate a small portion of rice with dal/ kadhi/ buttermilk. There would be vegetable soup too. Once a week or twice a week there would be meat or fish. He ate fruit after dinner though it is considered better to eat fruit in the mornings.

After every meal he drank a glass of warm water – 30 to 45 minutes after the meal. Only 1 out of his 3 main meals was rice based .

He followed this routine strictly for 2 months .( It is quite O.K. if you cannot follow the routine on some days due to unavoidable circumstances.)

After a month and a half he got the sugar tests done. and lo and behold! His sugar levels were back to normal ! We clapped our hands and rejoiced with relief.

We thank the Lord Jesus for having led us to Dr Jason Fung on the internet. Dr Jason Fung’s recommendations worked wonderfully for my husband and we are truly grateful to him too.

Our experience has been that diabetes can be reversed without drugs, without cost & without surgery.

In the next few months my husband did follow the above routine and diet, but not as strictly as before. Once he got into the routine of eating the right things his blood sugar showed a steady decrease.

We can confidently say he is not diabetic now, though he more or less follows the same routine. Sometimes he does enjoy a dessert, a sweet or a chocolate or a mango.
