If you’re looking for something exciting and different to do this weekend, I’ve got just the place for you. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Farmers Market in Salmabad Bahrain (thanks to hubby) and let me tell you, it’s a total hidden GEM!
Location– Located in Salmabad, just a stone’s throw away from Zayed Town and very close to the IKEA area.
Timings– 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Mondays to Saturdays
Parking– Plenty of space
Visiting fee- None
Toilet facility– available
As soon as we stepped into the market, I instantly lit up. The lush-green grass (artificial or not) surrounding the area is just beautiful. Everywhere you look, there are handcrafted pieces that really give you a glimpse into Bahrain’s rich culture and traditions.
The market is indoors though, air-conditioned and designed in a circle, which makes it so easy to take in everything on display. It’s the perfect spot to explore and really experience the local craftsmanship!
What can you expect from the Farmers Market in Salmabad Bahrain
Let’s talk about the goodies! Whether you’re a foodie or someone who loves to shop for healthy and unique items, this place has it all.
- Fresh Produce: If you’re a fan of fresh fruits and veggies, you’ll love this place. From vibrant tomatoes to leafy greens, fruits and spicy chilli peppers, you’ll find a mix of locally grown and imported produce.
- Organic Heaven: If organic is your thing, you’re in for a treat. There are several stalls selling everything from organic fruits and veggies to local honey and fresh herbs.
- Bahraini Specialties: Don’t miss the chance to try local treats like dates, traditional Bahraini perfumes, and spices. It’s these little touches that really give the market its authentic charm.
- Flowers & Plants: For those looking to add a little greenery to your home, there’s also a beautiful section with a variety of seeds, plants and flowers. You might just leave with a new plant or two- like I did!
Food spot
After exploring the market, we decided to check out the lovely Al Dar café, which is just a short walk ahead. The café has both indoor and outdoor seating, but with the weather being perfect, we chose to sit outside.
The setup was absolutely stunning- there was a water fountain, butterflies fluttering around the flower pots and sparrows chirping from the trees. It was the perfect place to relax and just take in the peaceful vibe of the surroundings.
The menu did not disappoint us either! We ordered Turkish eggs, chicken liver, a mushroom and egg croissant and a pot of karak tea. Each dish was delicious and the perfect way to recharge after all the exploring.
Kids play area
Now, here’s something that really stood out to me- this market is super family-friendly! It’s not just about shopping. Apart from the painting section I noticed inside the market, there’s a dedicated section for kids- with inflatable castles and rides. It’s a fantastic way to keep the little ones entertained while you take your time browsing through all the fresh produce and local goods. I loved seeing families enjoying themselves together here.
By the time we were done, my belly was full and my heart was happy. The Farmers’ Market in Salmabad Bahrain is truly a wonderful place to visit and I highly recommend checking it out next time you’re in the area. You won’t regret it!
How is Farmers market in Salmabad Bahrain different from the Budaiya Farmers market?
If you’ve been to the Budaiya Farmers’ Market, you might be wondering how Salmabad compares.
While both markets offer fresh, local produce and a great atmosphere, in my opinion, the Farmers’ Market in Salmabad Bahrain has a more relaxed, indoor setup with air conditioning and also operates year-round. That certainly makes it a great option for a comfortable visit, especially during the hot months.
In contrast, the Budaiya Farmers’ Market is bigger because its outdoors and has a more rustic, traditional vibe. You’ll find that the Budaiya market is often busier with more of a community-driven, open-air feel.
Both markets have their own unique charm, but it really depends on whether you’re after a more comfortable, indoor shopping experience or the lively, outdoor atmosphere at Budaiya!
