I am always looking for interesting reads for my son. So when I found Meera’s profile on Instagram, I was delighted to see her feed filled with books that she has read to her 2 year old. Interestingly, she also runs an IGTV channel in her profile called “Akkudu reads” that is very endearing. Well, who better than her, I thought, to ask for a list of books that I could use for my son. So here’s Meera with her top ten list of recommended books for toddlers.

One thing I’m truly grateful for, is my son’s love for reading! We love our reading time and later we make stories out of each book we read!
This is our personal list of top 10 favorite books (in no particular order).
The best behaviour series by Elizabeth Verdick
If you have an active toddler then these books are going to help you deal with your child’s tantrums and some other behaviours they pick up during 1-4 years. The books I have personally loved from the complete series include:
You can be by Elise Gravel
Such a perfect diverse and gender neutral book for young toddlers to teach them that they can be anyway they feel like being (except rude or mean)!
How to catch a star by Oliver Jeffers
We are fans of Oliver Jeffers’ books and this one is a must have. A gorgeous illustration on a little boy’s imagination and determination to catch a star!
The wonderful things you will be by Emily Winfield Martin
We got this book as for my son’s 2nd birthday gift and he loves it so much! This has everything I want to tell my son and all my hopes about him growing up to be an amazing human being ❤️
The Jar of Happiness by Ailsa Burrows
We love this book for the way it teaches young toddlers how to find happiness in simple things and how to share it with everyone.
Ammachi’s glasses by Priya Kuriyan
A book with no words but holds beautiful illustrations for anyone to interpret the story in any language in the world. Our all time favorite!
Surprise by Mies Van Hout
This book has one word on each page but the art speaks the whole journey of parenthood. My son loves it because I personalize the story to make it about Amma birdie and Akkudu birdie.
Giraffes can’t dance by Giles Andreae
All are welcome by Alexandra Penfold
This is a wonderful book choice for kids who are about to start school. The school is a safe and happy place where everyone is welcome irrespective of what you are wearing or where you are coming from. Beautiful illustration by Suzanne Kaufman!
Colors of India by Indigrow kids
We got this book as a Christmas gift for Akkudu and its already found a place in our top favorites. It is the story of Koko the crow in his imaginative journey, exploring the colours of India. The beautiful hand painted illustrations are the soul of this book.
It’s always hard to pick top favorites when there are thousands of wonderful books available. We make use of our local library really well and buy some books that we feel are must haves!
I’m so glad we opened the world of books to our son at a very early age. This has developed in him an interest and a habit of reading already!
Happy reading everyone!!
